Training - Training programme

  1. General review of modern Russian and imported equipment for urban electric transport traction substations.
  2. Semiconductor converters for traction substations; their types, parameters, advantages and drawbacks, trends of development.
  3. TPED series of rectifiers: main components, operational features:
    • Modern diode holders and clamping devices;
    • Galvanic isolation units and protection devices;
    • Study of diode tester, practice on measurement of diode characteristics, real-time measurements of back voltage distribution over diodes in working rectifier. Data transfer from diode tester to PC. Criteria of diode serviceability;
    • Microprocessor controller for V-TPED rectifier control and diagnostic system: design, maintenance, repair;
    • Reading and analysis of rectifier operational log using special software;
    • Study of tester for V-TPED rectifier control system;
    • Troubleshooting, main principles of operation, simulation of various operating modes of rectifier control system.
  4. Transformers of TSZPU and TSZP series for V-TPED rectifiers:
    • Main elements of transformer design;
    • Preparation for work, methods of drying;
    • Measurement of insulation resistance;
    • Testing insulation by increased voltage;
    • Finding of 3-phase transformer vector group and terminal polarity;
    • Measurement of windings direct-current resistances;
    • Check of transformation ratio;
    • Measurement of short-circuit loss and short-circuit voltage;
    • Measurement of no-load loss in transformer;
    • Converter transformer temperature monitoring unit (BKT), its modes of operation;
    • Commissioning program for BKT unit; Adjustment and functional tests of the unit. Work with BKT unit via TsPDU console of traction substation.
  5. Computer modeling in converter unit circuit. The model allows examining the converter circuits in various modes and at various parameters. Using virtual instruments (oscilloscope, current and voltage transducers), shapes and magnitudes of signals may be viewed.
  6. Testing DC circuit breakers:
    • Modern instruments for circuit breaker calibration. Direct and indirect methods of circuit breaker adjustment;
    • PRUS calibrator for calibrating quick-acting circuit breakers by forward current method. Design features, procedure of work. Practical use during operation.
  7. Measuring, diagnostic and adjusting instrumentation for equipment of traction substations:
    • Practical methods of work;
    • Electric strength testing units;
    • Study of work with electric strength testing units, using GPT/GPI-700 units as examples. (The GPI-735 unit is used to study method of insulation strength testing on V-TPED-600N rectifier and circuits of RUOSh-600L panel).
  8. Study of unit control principles from central remote control console (TsPDU).
  9. Conventional +600 V DC switchgears and modern switchgears with withdrawable and roll-out components:
    • Basic principles of equipment control;
    • Operational features for unitized switchgears with withdrawable components;
    • Operational features for motor disconnectors;
    • Manual and automatic transfer from main bus to reserve bus;
    • Touch-screen controls. Reading information on unitized switchgear operational log, reading oscilloscope patterns of short-circuit currents in feeders;
    • Procedure for testing insulation of DC cables;
    • Study of unitized switchgears operating in various modes, troubleshooting.
  10. RUOSh negative bus switchgears:
    • Main elements of design;
    • Design and work of motor drivers for disconnectors;
    • Operational features, troubleshooting.
  11. Protective devices for DC cables:
    • Modern diagnostic methods and equipment for DC cables;
    • Cabling protection panels;
    • Main elements of design, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  12. Auxiliary panels of traction substation:
    • Types and design variants;
    • Uninterruptible power supply units, basics of operation;
    • Basics of equipment operation;
    • Modes of operation, troubleshooting.
